Gem Dior Watch Collection
The new line of Gem Dior watches, designed by Victoire de Castellane, Creative Director of Dior Jewelry, includes seven models with irregular octagonal faces and claspless straps. Gem Dior owes its name to the high jewelry collection of the same name launched two years ago. Gem is a term harmonized with J’aime (which means ‘I love you’ in French).
“I imagined a set of watches and jewelry that is not figurative, says Victoire de Castellane. The spirit of this collection is modern, it’s a style I would call organic abstract, an organized bedlam that proved to be a real technical challenge for our workshops.” For example, the original watch case was designed after the design of minerals, in this case slices of raw tourmaline, while the bracelet was inspired by the way Monsieur Dior pinned fabric samples from his haute couture shows to leaves. The octagonal case is set with turquoise and diamonds around a malachite dial. The asymmetrical, claspless bracelet is made up of layers of ornamental gems (malachite, lapis lazuli, carnelian, pink opal, tiger’s eye) forming an intense hue. Gem Dior is available in six other versions (steel and black mother-of-pearl, pink gold, diamond-paved, gold and steel and lapis lazuli, etc.), all delivered with an interchangeable black leather strap.
