Located in the Sadovie Kvartali residential complex in Moscow, Russia, this 208 m² project is the work of the architectural firm Babayants Architects. The chandelier-rich ensemble features concise lines and light materials, with a palette of sober, elegant colors to create a space that is both uncluttered and refined.

How does an interior design project come about? There’s obviously no set scenario – the atmosphere depends on many factors. In the case of this 208 m² apartment in Moscow’s Sadovie Kvartali residential complex, the ideas were born when architects Artem Babayants and Lia Yang, of Babayants Architects, first visited the premises and discovered a space with high ceilings, bathed in natural light and overlooking a breathtaking view. Their goal was to bring out and magnify every advantage. They had to implement numerous functional solutions without weighing the space down or breaking it up into smaller parts. Thus, the sky, the lake and the changing climate were the main sources of influence, resulting in a most successful minimalist setting. For architects, working with high ceilings is a real challenge. In this project, with a ceiling height of 3.4 meters, it was imperative to master all the proportions of the plan and to build clear compositions to avoid the risk of misalignment and to obtain a well arranged whole. That’s why the duo invested in multi-functionality, a wide field of vision and the exploitation of every last centimeter in a subtle, sober style. At the entrance to the house, guests are greeted by an oriental-inspired marble composition – designed by Babayants Architects – with two tables that appear to form a single element separated by a crack. A corridor leads from the entrance hall to the common and private areas, acting as a junction around which movement takes place.
