A landscape-focused ecotourism haven in Austria

Nestled in Austria’s mountainous landscapes, an extension of the Puradies wellness center in Leogang, Salzburg, opens its doors thanks to the architecture and interior design of NOA (Network of Architecture). Designed to seamlessly adapt to the hilly topography of its natural setting, the boutique hotel features a spa centered around fire, water, earth, and air. Set against the backdrop of a spectacular mountain range and lush green meadows, it is a haven of vitality for those seeking tranquility and outdoor sports in the Tyrol region.

Originally a farm, Puradies, expanded by the architecture and interior design studio NOA, is now a hotel dedicated to ecotourism, visited by avid skiers, mountain bikers, hikers, and families. With 76 rooms and 14 chalets laid out like a village, this “paradise” location in Leogang, Austria, is ideal for sports and escape. The design is based on the picturesque surrounding landscape. Before the recent expansion, the resort had a natural swimming pond with footbridges, but no pool. In response to popular demand, a completely new spa concept was developed, including fitness and yoga rooms, relaxation areas, a children’s pool, an adult pool, and the new Ess-Enz restaurant. The floor plans are arranged in concentric rows, blending into the site. One section faces the serene swimming lake, while the other embraces the gentle southern hillside, creating two balanced facades. Green roofs blend in with the meadows, and the interior opens to both the north and south. A lawn with raised beds, a Dorfer quartzite column fountain, an outdoor fireplace, and hallways, among other features, connect the original building to the addition. Inside, earth and air meet, embodied by an earth-toned wall on one side and light linen fabrics on the other side of the window. Guests are welcomed into the lounge, a two-story space that connects the wellness area and the restaurant. In the center, a suspended bowl-shaped fireplace is framed by a wall art piece by Michael Lang. The upper floor features large glass facades and recessed skylights. Inside, organically shaped wooden ceiling elements with hanging plants mimic the profile of a mountain. Laser-cut wooden lamps, compact fabric-covered seating islands, a sun terrace, an open space formed by the slope of the roofs, two relaxation rooms, one in natural stone and the other with sisal surfaces… Simple elements for an exceptional design.
