The architecture and interior design firm mode:lina completed a modern home located on one of the many hills surrounding the city of Poznan, Poland. The architects had to fit the structure into the steep terrain, and while they expected a challenge, the resulting solution and massing proved unexpectedly easy.
Located in Poznan, Poland, this property presents design challenges due to its hilly location, which forces the architects at mode:lina to be creative. Taking inspiration from Lego, the three floors are spaced apart in equal squares, resembling the building panels of this children’s toy. The floor slabs extend beyond the walls, creating outdoor spaces, some of which are covered. The first floor houses the garage and technical aspects of the residence, while the second floor is composed of five cubicles: a dressing room, a guest room, a bathroom, an open area with a kitchen and a fireplace with audiovisual infrastructure, separated by glass walls, which keep the sight lines open everywhere. On the top level, the rooms of the building have the form of two distinct structures, one being the parents’ bedroom, the other the children’s and an open mezzanine overlooking the living room. Between the first floor and the second floor, there is an outdoor courtyard with a swimming pool. Inside, the color palette is neutral with white surfaces, wood details and gray furniture. The kitchen features white cabinets that match the entertainment wall, a backsplash and a white Carrera marble island. The final form of the building blends seamlessly with the terrain. Horizontally, huge blocks generate an intriguing contrast with the high hill, creating at the same time a surface for terraces with views of the city panorama.
