Located in the foothills of Las Vegas, Nevada, this magnificent residence captures the true essence of desert architecture, while expressing high-level design and engineering. The clients’ desire for a grand home that would open up to the surrounding landscape and draw views from every direction and room is realized by the architectural and engineering firm of Cushing Terrell.
Recently completed by Cushing Terrell, the sprawling building is part of The Summit Club residential complex, spanning five acres and offering panoramic views of the landscape. It includes an impressive main house, a separate three-bedroom guest house, a pool casita and a spectacular garage. Despite the immense size, all the elements – architecture, decoration and landscaping – work together to create a soothing effect. Architect Jesse Vigil of Cushing Terrell and the owners decide to rotate the original plan 180 degrees, so that the major spaces look out onto natural wonders. The structures are elegantly uncluttered, with exterior walls of Gridworx, a cladding system that contains light tan panels of durable quartzite sandstone. Between the sandstone and the interior’s cool white walls of marble, quartzite, other stone and plaster is gap-free insulation that helps mitigate temperature extremes, as do the triple-pane windows. The open floor plan of the main residence and the guest house guarantee intimate family moments as well as large receptions. The kitchen, the heart of the home, ensures the most talented chef has the tools to create memorable culinary experiences, with three ovens and two islands, one of which is made of bluestone to match the backsplash. It also features a sunken bar with seating on three sides. The villa is airy with natural ventilation, thanks to floor-to-ceiling openings that blur the boundaries. An infinity pool with adjoining fireplace invites you to enjoy a relaxing break from the action of the entertainment capital of the world and take in the pure beauty of the desert.
