A building surrounded by a ribbon of concrete
In a quiet district of Punjab, India, Studio Ardete has created a residential project featuring a dynamic sculptural façade. The structure redefines the architectural language of the region, establishing its distinctive character. Spanning 345 m2, the dwelling not only forges a unique identity, but also reflects the aspirations of its inhabitants.
Inspired by the organic contours of nature, the design of this home, located in Punjab, India, incorporates fluid lines that resemble a gently unwinding ribbon, elegantly embracing the entire composition by Studio Ardete. Its exterior, mainly made of concrete, introduces a dynamic object adding a perception of movement and vitality to the building’s appearance. This gives the impression of an endless journey, forging a sense of continuity. The interaction between concrete and structural elements is akin to the relationship between fluid and solid, creating a living organism. By breaking down the overall structure of the building into slender curves, natural light penetrates abundantly into the interior, facilitating air circulation and ventilation. Projecting concrete volumes provide shade for the openings, while adding a distinct form and style to the façade. Upon entering the house, residents or visitors are greeted by a spiral staircase, featuring wide concrete steps and an angular, twisted balustrade with tilting black rails that pivot around a central post with a pendant light fixture. It acts as a linking element between floors, unfolding as it goes, revealing additional areas and unexpected corners. The architects strategically opted for a minimal interior, to highlight the features of each room.
