Under the California sky

To the north, a panoramic view of the country club and its golf course with its majestic palm trees, to the south an exposed and welcoming entrance, these are the main features of this Californian residence in Palm Desert, designed by Kor Architects. A project that defies the norms of the city and its hidden villas.

While architectural conventions dictate the positioning of outdoor spaces to the south, the rhythm of a life multiplied by pleasures rather imposes a construction that maximizes sunlight thanks to an east-west orientation. This is the credo of Kor Architects, in accordance with the wishes of the owners of this elegant Palm Desert home. The entrance, located on the southern edge of the property, is deliberately transparent. Through a pathway as Zen as it is playful, made up of criss-crossing steps, crystal-clear pools and giant concrete water lilies, the guest enters an interior where the intimacy of wood follows the freshness of steel and tiles. An interior of well-thought-out details, like the limestone on the walls, whose subtle variations in texture indicate the passage from one living zone to another. In the main living area, the floating ceiling is encircled by transoms: 360° of natural light at any time of day. All in all, 678 m2 of exquisite design, framed on either side by art installations that draw a philosophical line between man-made and natural beauty. The latter is crystallized, beyond the patios and their flaming braziers in the evening, by a magnificent view over the waterfalls of the golf club grounds.
